The Father's Love Letter

When is the last time you sat down and wrote a love letter? A real mushy gushy kind of a thing? I know this isn't everyone's cup of tea! I have always enjoyed expressing my love through words, and that probably has something to do with the fact that my Love Language is "Words of Affirmation." I need to HEAR how much you love me. :) And words of discouragement or spite really tear me down. When I care about or love someone, I really enjoy telling them so through written words.

Many people refer to the bible as God's love letter to us. I get that the overarching theme is definitely about his grace and mercy and the great sacrifice that was made on our behalf, but admittedly, it's hard for me to think of much of what is in scripture as anything resembling a love letter! Doesn't look anything like my kind of "love letters!"

Then I read this compilation of verses throughout scripture titled "The Father's Love Letter" and my spiritual eyes were opened. Yes...of course. It's all about love. Every verse. Every line. I wanted to share this with you today in the hopes that it will encourage you to know just how CRAZY God is about you, right now and right where you are. I hope this beautiful message will touch your heart today!

Love,
Your Dad, Almighty God.

I wish I could take credit for putting this together, but the compiler is anonymous! These promises of God are some of the most beautiful expressions of love that I have ever heard. He is always thinking about you, advocating for you, working things together for your good, he has plans for you, he wants to prosper you, he comforts you and encourages you. And what does he ask from us? "If you seek me with all of your heart you will find me." From the one who knows the number of hairs on your head! From the Old Testament to the New. God is love, and he loves you!

WHY does he care about us so much? "Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God's kindness is meant to lead you to repentance?" Romans 2:4 (Emphasis mine)

His deepest desire is for his creation to turn their hearts to him. He desperately wants us to turn from the desires of our flesh, to put off our old selves and put on our new selves and follow him. He wants to give us a new heart and a new spirit. He wants to wash each one white as snow and give us all a brand new start. We posses the ability to love, because he first loved us. He's just standing there...knocking at the door...the one who wants to give you the deepest desires of your heart. Who wouldn't want to open that?! Come on in, Lord and STAY a while! :) I pray that His loving kindness speaks to you today.

  1. Thank you for sharing! When reading I was reminded of some of my Bible as literature courses in college - it was very helpful to me to study the Bible in its historical context. Your post reminds me of Paul's letters where he acknowledged the hardship and trials which were upon the people, but also reminded them of God's love and plan. As you mentioned, though "unconventional," the Bible is indeed a love letter to us from God - and it has something for everyone, if you are willing to "listen." ;)

    Thank you again!
